The Volvo 760 GLE saloon arrived in 1982 as Volvo’s upmarket 700 Series model. Its square four-door body, spacious cabin and long-distance refinement separated it from the later 740. Depending on year and market, the 760 range included six-cylinder petrol, turbocharged four-cylinder and turbo diesel engines.
The 1987 revisions are particularly important when identifying a car. Volvo substantially changed the front styling and introduced independent multi-link rear suspension to the 760 saloon. Earlier and later cars therefore have meaningful mechanical and visual differences.
